Shaw 7300 is a high-performance, two-component, fast-set urethane adhesive designed for the high-performance seaming and direct bonding of indoor/outdoor and turf products. Shaw 7300 is particularly suited for use in areas of low ambient relative humidity and in cool temperatures. Shaw 7300 is colored green to blend in with most turf products and cures within 2 to 4 hours to form a tough durable bond. Shaw 7300 provides seam strengths that are in compliance with FIFA standards.

Installation Instructions For Adhesive

For more detailed instructions, please refer to Philadelphia Commercial's installation instructions and/or the CRI installation standard.

1. Prepare The Floor

All substrates must be structurally sound, dry, solid and stable. Substrate should be clean and free of dust, dirt, oil, grease, paint, curing agents, concrete sealers, loosely bonded toppings, loose particles, old adhesive residues, and any other substance or condition that may prevent or reduce adhesion. Substrates must be level & smooth. Level any high spots, and fill all cracks, holes and minor depressions with a suitable underlayment or floor patch. For exterior applications, we advise the use of an exterior grade patching compound, irregularities can “telegraph” through the new floor covering as a result of inadequate surface preparation.

Exterior

Site Conditions: Temperatures should be 50°F - 90°F during the installation phase, and not drop below 32°F for 48 hours. Installations should not receive drenching rain or moisture from other sources for 48 hours after application. Adhesive becomes more water resistant as it cures. Areas to be covered should have good drainage. Do not use in areas that will be continually submerged in water.

Interior

Porous surfaces such as gypsum should be sealed by applying a single coat of primer sealer with a short nap paint roller and allow to dry before making final application with the recommended trowel.

SUITABLE SUBSTRATES ARE:

Exterior

  • Concrete, cured asphalt (minimum 12 months old) and other clean paving surfaces
  • Exterior or marine grade plywood (Group 1, CC type)
  • Aluminum and fiberglass that is clean and has been roughed up or sanded to remove oxidation and give a better mechanical bonding surface
  • Substrates that have been stained, painted, sealed or otherwise coated must be tested to assure compatibility with the adhesive

Interior

  • Other approved wood underlayments (per manufacturer recommendations)
  • Concrete and properly prepared terrazzo
  • Cement-based self-leveling underlayments and patching compounds
  • Embossing levelers applied over existing fully bonded ceramic tile, and sheet vinyl
  • A single layer of properly prepared, fully bonded vinyl composition tile (VCT)
  • Properly prepared and primed gypsum underlayments that meet the ASTM F2419 requirements for compressive strength

For substrates not covered, contact Philadelphia Commercial Technical Support at 800.441.7429. for recommendations.

2. Determine Dry Time

Flash is the waiting time required before installing flooring. Working time is the window of time the adhesive will accept the tile. Flash times and working times may vary based on temperature, humidity, substrate porosity, application method and jobsite conditions.

Shaw 7300
Flooring Type Flash Working Time
Non-Porous Floors No Flash Time Required 30 to 45 Minutes (Interior)
Varies by Temp (Exterior)

3. Determine Coverage And Select Application Method

Coverages shown are for estimating purposes only. Actual job site coverages may vary according to substrate conditions, type of trowel used and setting practices. Trowel dimensions are depth/width/space.

Interior/Exterior Application And Coverage
Flooring Type Typical Trowel Coverage
Indoor/Outdoor, Turf and Seam Tape 1/8" x 1/8" x 1/8" U Notch
(3 x 3 x 3 mm)
4-6 sy/U.S. gal
(0.9-1.3 m2 per L)
Parts A/B mixed yeild 2 gal
Outdoor Carpet Tile 1/16" x 1/16" x 1/16" U / Square Notch
(3 x 3 x 3 mm)
14 - 21 sy/U.S. gal per gallon (3.06-4.53 m² per L).

4. Apply Adhesive

Read all installation instructions thoroughly before installation. Once the adhesive is mixed according to the instructions, remove the adhesive from the pail immediately to retain optimal adhesive working time. Select the appropriately notched trowel. Spread adhesive evenly over the subfloor, keeping the trowel at a 45° angle to the subfloor.

5. Roll Product

Roll the width and length of the floor with a 75- to 100-pound roller to ensure adhesive transfer to the backing. Roll again after 1 hour; should bubbles appear, apply a weighted object (such as a sandbag) to the area.

6. Protect Floor

Protect floor with plywood if heavy objects are moved on top of surface within 24 hours.

7. Clean Up

Use acetone applied to a clean white cotton cloth to remove fresh adhesive from carpet, turf and tool surfaces.

Limitations

When installing patterned carpet, be aware that time is very limited for pattern adjustment.
